Listing Information
Estate of Pauline and Maurice Tate, deceased- Elon, NC --- Address will be displayed for previews and pickups the evening before each event. Mrs. Tate was born near Henderson, NC, to the Hoyle family; they moved to Burlington when she was a teenager. After completing her education at Emmanuel College in Georgia, Mrs. Tate worked for Western Electric for more than 35 years. She was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church then People's Memorial Church. Mrs. Tate loved to tend her garden. For many years, she grew vegetables in two plots in her back yard. Other landscaping beds overflow with roses (her favorite) and flowers of all descriptions. While indoors, Mrs. Tate enjoyed sewing. She made table cloths for herself and others and tried her hand at quilting. She also enjoyed cooking for others. Guests were treated to many dishes when invited for dinner or a holiday celebration. She especially enjoyed Christmas decorating and celebrations. Mrs. Tate also enjoyed traveling with a group of friends. They visited all the major US National Parks together. She also liked to travel to reunions of her brother-in-law's Army unit and to family reunions. Reunions are a big deal when one has 14 siblings! Mrs. Tate loved her son and two grandchildren, siblings, in-laws, nieces and nephews. She was generous to share her time, her home, and her talents. Mr. Tate was from Altamahaw, one of eight children. He worked for the plaid mill as a fixer then was the owner of Community Appliance in Burlington until his death in 1993. In addition of the tools of his trade, he enjoyed having the woodworking shop.
