Question: What is the difference between live weight and hanging weight and what kind of yield can I expect? Answer: Live weight is what the animal weighs at the time of sale. Hanging weight is what the animal weighs after slaughter. The following are examples of average hanging weight yeilds:

Live Weight Hanging Weight Useable Meat

1240 lb. steer 765 lb. carcass 550 lbs. meat

260 lb. hog 189 lb. carcass 135 lbs. meat

126 lb. lamb 60 lb. carcass 47 lbs. meat

40 lb. goat 20 lb. carcass 16 lbs. meat

Question: Can the same animal be shared? Answer: Yes, you may split the animal. Make sure you show all the bid numbers during the sale at the time of purchase Question: How will payment be handled? Answer: You may pay by check, cash or credit card anytime during or immediately after the auction. Read over your bill of sale to make sure everything is correct before leaving.
