Preview The Toledo Lighthouse virtual silent auction will begin August 25 and will end at 10 am on September 11. The silent auction is being conducted by Pamela Rose auctions. The Virtual Toledo Lighthouse Silent Auction will raise funds to help offset the loss of festival revenue, which was cancelled because of the Corona 19 Virus. The first phase restoration project will: Install first floor windows and shutters (already purchased); Purchase and install outside doors; Replace brick on the first and second floors; Purchase and install second floor windows and shutters. This represents a major facelift for the lighthouse. It is hoped this will lead to funding for the rest of the restoration. The first phase of the restoration started August 18, a $638,000 project that will put replace some brick and put in historic new windows and shutters on the first and second floor, and redo two steel doors, This is made possible with a $500,000 grant, $20,000 from Cleveland Cliffs, and a loan from Genoa bank. Great appreciation to Lucas County, the Ohio Department of Transportation, TMACOG, Duket Architects, Poggemyer Design and all of the over 400 Toledo Lighthouse members and other supporters through the years who have made this possible. The lighthouse is five miles off shore from Maumee Bay in Lake Erie. It is 4,000 square feet, historical, and was dedicated on May 23, 1904. There are volunteers trying to fund the restoration. Once completed it will be one of if not the greatest Toledo tourism destinations. As lighthouses go, Toledo stands out in size and architecture with the roof being like the upside hull of a ship. When you see a large number of different lighthouse pics, you can easily find Toledo – it is very different. Removal |
