 2020 July Auction Weekend

 Saturday, July 18 - 11:00 a.m. - Fine Art & Antiques

 Sunday, July 19 - 11:00 a.m. - 19th & 20th Century Decorative Arts & Jewelry

We will kick off the 2020 summer season with a two-day sale of interesting and diverse rarities and artistic masterworks – a great source of fine items for home or collection.

Due to Covid-19 concerns, we will conduct this important event as a LIVE VIRTUAL AUCTION.  There will be multiple remote viewing and bidding options (telephone, absentee and 3 internet platform options) to ensure a fun and worthwhile auction experience for all. Preview in our gallery will be by appointment only, so please give us a call at 1-207-354-8141 to set up a time.  We look forward to seeing you soon

On Saturday, July 18, we will offer an outstanding selection of fine art, including works by Leon Dabo, Joseph Goodhue Chandler, Otto Sommer, Ruldolph Andersson, Georges D’Espagnet, David Broderick Walcott, Josef Israels, Wilson Henry Irvine, and William Pierce Stubbs. Three carousel horses, and a great group of weathervanes will lead the folk art collection; and there will be multiple important prints by John James Audubon, plus a collection of antiquities including a large Roman marble sculpture, and two Cycladic carvings. Saturday will feature a large group of Biedermeier furniture, and a selection of fine early American pieces. The marine category will include 16 ship models, camphorwood trunks and chests, and navigation instruments. A large collection of Chinese and South Asian artifacts will be presented, along with Native American items led by a circa 1900 beaded deerskin Plains Indian dress. Finally, this day will include important firearms, ephemera, tea caddies, early estate silver & porcelain, early clocks and fine oriental carpets.

On Sunday, July 19, the emphasis will be on late 19th to early 20th Century decorative items, featuring artwork by Keith Haring, Yuan Yuey Chinn, Jean-Paul Chambras, Alex Kanevsky, Melbourne Brindle, Stephen Etnier, Cig Harvey, Ross Edward Dickinson, Robert Indiana, James William “Bo” Bartlett III, Fernand Renard, Bernard Langlais and Andre Harvey; plus a group of Austrian bronzes, including pieces by Franz Bergmann. A selection of Modernist and Midcentury furniture will be offered, such as: “Brno” armchairs, an Eero Saarinen dining set, and Poltrona Frau leather tub chairs; plus examples of Stickley, Eldred Wheeler and designer leather pieces. Jewelry offerings will be led by a ruby and diamond bracelet and a 3.46 carat diamond ring; and the glass/porcelain group will feature important Scandinavian art pottery and art glass by Paolo Venini, James Nowak, Carl Radke, and Tiffany Studios. And, Sunday will include a collection of Japanese artwork, weaponry, porcelain and cloisonné; plus, fine silver, garden items, and architectural pieces.

Please call ahead (1-207-354-8141) to schedule a preview of the many fine items in this sale.  It would be our pleasure to set up your bid by phone, absentee or internet.  Visit our website at www.thomastonauction.com for full details and a complete virtual catalog.  Buyer’s Premium is 17% (20% for online bidders).
