Hobby Auction service has been contracted to conduct this Online Only auction. This is a small 40 Lot auction consisting of some great pieces of military history.

Lot:

1        Reenactor uniform, CSA Cavalry.  Lined jacket with yellow collar, epaulets and cuffs. Repro CSA buttons.  Pants and braces with yellow leg stripes.  Large yellow sash.  Cloth rifle sleeve.

2        Marine Corps Sergeant O.D. uniform jacket.  Size 41L. Sergeant’s chevron w/crossed rifles.  4 year federal service stripe.          

3        US Navy Commanders jacket w/ribbons. Size 41L.  Label “Patriot styled by Weintraub Bros. Co. Philadelphia”.  Naval Reserve, 4 ribbons:  Sea Service, Service outside U.S., Armed Forces Reserve, American campaign . Also includes officers hat band and white gloves.

4        1 lot US Navy blue uniforms (3) and 1 white uniform top. Traditional blue dress uniforms have button front pants.  Rank patches and insignia are as follows: petty officer 3rd class, Gunners mate/Armorer, honorable discharge patch (note: this uniform has some moth damage on pants and back of jersey); petty officer 2nd class, Aviation Metalsmith; petty officer 3rd class, Baker, honorable discharge patch.  All blues have wool pants, first two tops are wool, 3rd is a more modern blend.  White cotton top, size 38 petty officer 2nd class, heavy equipment operator.     

5        US Army olive drab visor officer hat with embroidered gold bullion oak leaves.  ID’d “Major Hipp EXO 2/153 Inf 39th Div., Searcy, AR”.       

6        Civil War Era(?) Sheffield made knife blade, stag horn handle, cleaned blade, some pitting.  11 1/2 inch length.     

7        Civil War Era (?), Bowie type knife, Clark, Frary & Clark.  LF&C Aetna Works, stag bone handle, 11 1/2 inch length.

8        M1904 McClellan saddle, 11 inch union seal, mostly complete

9        Kansas National Guard pre 1935 uniform coat buttons.  Set of 8. With Kansas state seal. 1916 Mexican expedition and WW1 era.  2 part, K.N.G. by Superior Quality.     

10      Badge with later life image of Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. Thomas Wilson Bradley, 124th Reg. N.Y. Volunteer Infantry. Awarded for “gallantry at Chancellorsville”.  Celluloid badge detached from ribbon for Walden Volunteer Fire Dept.    

11      16 booklets, “The Civil War through the Camera” “Elson’s New History“, Copyright 1912, Patriot Publishing Co., Springfield , Mass. Photographic images of the civil war.

12      Tintype 1880’s photo of a wagon team, half plate, framed, frame 11 ¼ X 13 ¾ inches.

13      3 Badges, Order of the Sons of St. George, Butte City, Montana.  2 lodge membership/memoriam badges, 2 ½ X 9 inch, obverses have top celluloid handshake image in gold-tone metal pin, white ribbon drop with embroidered US flags, attached celluloid drop with illustration of the dragon and St. George.  Text “Peace and Harmony Lodge, No. 312  S. of St. G.  Butte City Montana” Bottom gold fringe.  Blue background ribbon faded.  Reverse is black and silver “In Memoriam” badge, same text as obverse. 3rd badge is 3 X 11 inch, “Past Worthy President Fred G. Hodge” with remaining text as previous.  Gold-tone cross lattice pin, blue ribbon with 3 inch gold braid rimmed rosette, red rosette in center with text “Honii. Soit. Qui. Mal. Y. Pense” , large gold “O”. 2 large gold braid tassels at each side of rosette.  Gold braid star at bottom with 3 small attached tassels.  The Order of Sons of St. George was considered to be a sort of anti-Molly Mcguire organization controlled by the mine owners.  Organized in Pennsylvania, Montana was considered its stronghold.

14      Volume XI of “Confederate Military History”, Texas and Florida, Confederate Publishing Company, Atlanta, Ga., 1899. 480 pages. Detailed examination of the confederate states Texas and Florida and their contributions to the war.  Also includes biographies of state notables.  Leather binding, some minor damage,

16      1913 Reunion visitor badge “9th Biennial Convention, Chattanooga, Tenn. Oct. 24-25, 1913”  “L.A. to B.R.T.  1889”.  Visitor badge for the Ladies Auxiliary to the Brotherhood of railroad Trainmen, 2 piece with enameled US and CSA flags on upper, mountain, river and train image on lower piece.  Maker Whitehead & Hoag Co., N.J.

18      CDV of Confederate general John B. Magruder, published by E.&H.T. Anthony of NYC.   West point graduate Magruder served in the Mexican war and during the Civil War particularly in the Peninsula campaign and the Seven Days.  He finished the war as the administrator of the Trans-Mississippi, including the Department of Arkansas.       

19      Tintype photo of a southern soldier, 1/9 plate, ½ small union case

20      Southern Cross of Honor with ”A.B.G.” engraved on pin bar.  Identified to A.B. Gibbon, comes with copy of family births list and damaged tintype.

21      Gen. Robt. E. Lee Litho photo from “the History of the Great Rebellion”, 1865.  Steel plate engraving. 

22      An original Civil War anecdote of Robert E. Lee from Jo Lane Stern, at 13 a military telegraph operator for the CSA.  Stern was a student under Lee at Washington College after the war and was said to be the only person outside the Lee family to have ever ridden Traveller.  Signed by Stern, printed broadside , no date.

23      Civil War 1.00 scrip from Independence County in Arkansas, signed at Batesville, 27 January, 1862 to U. Maxfield for expenses of gun shop.  Uriah Maxfield moved to Batesville in 1841 and ran a tannery and boot shop but also did gun repairs. Half page printed form filled in and signed.

24      CSA $1000 six percent Bond, CR-154, B-366.  Vignette rural scene with man at turnstile.  Issued at Savannah, GA. Sept. 15, 1864, white paper, signed and numbered #8319.  VF, R-3

25      CSA Interim Depository Receipt, $5000, issued at Columbia, SC, August 30, 1864.  4 per cent. Unc., white paper.

26      CSA Interim Depository Receipt, $1000, issued at Charleston, SC, March 18, 1864.  4 percent, blue paper

27      Widow’s application for pension, State of Arkansas for J.M. Mims of the 7th regt. Arkansas Infantry, dated Feb. 10th, 1910 in Logan County.  Filled in printed form, signed and notarized, filed at Caulksville P.O., Logan County.

28      Official program of the 36th Annual Reunion of the United Confederate Veterans at Birmingham, AL May 18-21, 1926.  Also the 27th Reunion of the Confederated Southern Memorial Association and the 31st Annual Reunion of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.  12 page printed pamphlet.

30      Four salesman specimen letterheads from Paducah Printing Co. for the United Daughters of the Confederacy, 1942.  Postcard with flag logo and address, return address on small envelope, return on invitation envelope and letterhead for stationery, includes letter from printing company with prices.

31      Norfolk & Petersburg Railroad stock certificate signed by former Confederate Major General William Mahone September 5, 1868.  Cut cancelled.         

32      Land grant document signed by then Governor of Missouri and future Confederate General Sterling Price April 13, 1853.  Price was in command of the Department of Arkansas and turned back Steele in the Camden expedition.  Blue paper, 12 ½ X 15 ¾ embossed seal. Some foxing, holes at folds.

33      Kentucky pre-Civil War document signed by John Adair, Governor from 1820-1824 and his secretary John C. Breckinridge, father of the Confederate general of the same name.  Appointing Jacob White Justice of the Peace for Madison County, November 10, 1821.  Printed form filled in and signed.

34      Clipped signature, Confederate Brigadier General James Connor, commanded 22nd North Carolina, post war attorney general, South Carolina.

35      4 page autographed letter from John Tyler Morgan, former Confederate general  of the 51st Alabama Partisan Rangers, as Senator from Washington, 1878.         

36      Stock certificate for the Arkansas Valley Trust Company of Ft. Smith, AR signed by Clifton Rhodes Breckinridge, Representative from Arkansas, served in the Confederacy, son of John C. Breckinridge.  Signed 1906, cancelled 1925.

37      Signed financial note dated Jan. 11, 1873 from A.H. Garland, former CSA congressman, later Governor and Senator from Arkansas and US Attorney General in the Cleveland administration. Half sheet lined paper, dated and signed.        

38      Clipped signature, James K Jones, Congressman and Senator from Arkansas, former CSA soldier.

40      Signed railroad bill of lading from Norfolk and Western Railroad Company.  Signed by E.E. Hobby Auction service has been contracted to conduct this Online Only auction. This is a small 40 Lot auction consisting of some great pieces of military history.

Lot:

1        Reenactor uniform, CSA Cavalry.  Lined jacket with yellow collar, epaulets and cuffs. Repro CSA buttons.  Pants and braces with yellow leg stripes.  Large yellow sash.  Cloth rifle sleeve.

2        Marine Corps Sergeant O.D. uniform jacket.  Size 41L. Sergeant’s chevron w/crossed rifles.  4 year federal service stripe.          

3        US Navy Commanders jacket w/ribbons. Size 41L.  Label “Patriot styled by Weintraub Bros. Co. Philadelphia”.  Naval Reserve, 4 ribbons:  Sea Service, Service outside U.S., Armed Forces Reserve, American campaign . Also includes officers hat band and white gloves.

4        1 lot US Navy blue uniforms (3) and 1 white uniform top. Traditional blue dress uniforms have button front pants.  Rank patches and insignia are as follows: petty officer 3rd class, Gunners mate/Armorer, honorable discharge patch (note: this uniform has some moth damage on pants and back of jersey); petty officer 2nd class, Aviation Metalsmith; petty officer 3rd class, Baker, honorable discharge patch.  All blues have wool pants, first two tops are wool, 3rd is a more modern blend.  White cotton top, size 38 petty officer 2nd class, heavy equipment operator.     

5        US Army olive drab visor officer hat with embroidered gold bullion oak leaves.  ID’d “Major Hipp EXO 2/153 Inf 39th Div., Searcy, AR”.       

6        Civil War Era(?) Sheffield made knife blade, stag horn handle, cleaned blade, some pitting.  11 1/2 inch length.     

7        Civil War Era (?), Bowie type knife, Clark, Frary & Clark.  LF&C Aetna Works, stag bone handle, 11 1/2 inch length.

8        M1904 McClellan saddle, 11 inch union seal, mostly complete

9        Kansas National Guard pre 1935 uniform coat buttons.  Set of 8. With Kansas state seal. 1916 Mexican expedition and WW1 era.  2 part, K.N.G. by Superior Quality.     

10      Badge with later life image of Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. Thomas Wilson Bradley, 124th Reg. N.Y. Volunteer Infantry. Awarded for “gallantry at Chancellorsville”.  Celluloid badge detached from ribbon for Walden Volunteer Fire Dept.    

11      16 booklets, “The Civil War through the Camera” “Elson’s New History“, Copyright 1912, Patriot Publishing Co., Springfield , Mass. Photographic images of the civil war.

12      Tintype 1880’s photo of a wagon team, half plate, framed, frame 11 ¼ X 13 ¾ inches.

13      3 Badges, Order of the Sons of St. George, Butte City, Montana.  2 lodge membership/memoriam badges, 2 ½ X 9 inch, obverses have top celluloid handshake image in gold-tone metal pin, white ribbon drop with embroidered US flags, attached celluloid drop with illustration of the dragon and St. George.  Text “Peace and Harmony Lodge, No. 312  S. of St. G.  Butte City Montana” Bottom gold fringe.  Blue background ribbon faded.  Reverse is black and silver “In Memoriam” badge, same text as obverse. 3rd badge is 3 X 11 inch, “Past Worthy President Fred G. Hodge” with remaining text as previous.  Gold-tone cross lattice pin, blue ribbon with 3 inch gold braid rimmed rosette, red rosette in center with text “Honii. Soit. Qui. Mal. Y. Pense” , large gold “O”. 2 large gold braid tassels at each side of rosette.  Gold braid star at bottom with 3 small attached tassels.  The Order of Sons of St. George was considered to be a sort of anti-Molly Mcguire organization controlled by the mine owners.  Organized in Pennsylvania, Montana was considered its stronghold.

14      Volume XI of “Confederate Military History”, Texas and Florida, Confederate Publishing Company, Atlanta, Ga., 1899. 480 pages. Detailed examination of the confederate states Texas and Florida and their contributions to the war.  Also includes biographies of state notables.  Leather binding, some minor damage,    

15      Ambrotype of VIP, framed, full plate size, oval frame approx. 10 X 12 inch, some damage to inner frame.        

16      1913 Reunion visitor badge “9th Biennial Convention, Chattanooga, Tenn. Oct. 24-25, 1913”  “L.A. to B.R.T.  1889”.  Visitor badge for the Ladies Auxiliary to the Brotherhood of railroad Trainmen, 2 piece with enameled US and CSA flags on upper, mountain, river and train image on lower piece.  Maker Whitehead & Hoag Co., N.J.

17      Civil War era photos.  CDV of Union officer and wife, CDV of US soldier, revenue stamp on reverse, CDV US Navy officer, CDV US Navy officer, named but not clear, 3 tintype photos of civilians, CDV 4 brothers(?), CDV of baby, Rand & Latto photographers, Mass., CDV of baby, Hinkle photographer, Germantown, PA., brother and sister CDVs, Philadelphia photographers.    

18      CDV of Confederate general John B. Magruder, published by E.&H.T. Anthony of NYC.   West point graduate Magruder served in the Mexican war and during the Civil War particularly in the Peninsula campaign and the Seven Days.  He finished the war as the administrator of the Trans-Mississippi, including the Department of Arkansas.       

19      Tintype photo of a southern soldier, 1/9 plate, ½ small union case

20      Southern Cross of Honor with ”A.B.G.” engraved on pin bar.  Identified to A.B. Gibbon, comes with copy of family births list and damaged tintype.

21      Gen. Robt. E. Lee Litho photo from “the History of the Great Rebellion”, 1865.  Steel plate engraving. 

22      An original Civil War anecdote of Robert E. Lee from Jo Lane Stern, at 13 a military telegraph operator for the CSA.  Stern was a student under Lee at Washington College after the war and was said to be the only person outside the Lee family to have ever ridden Traveller.  Signed by Stern, printed broadside , no date.

23      Civil War 1.00 scrip from Independence County in Arkansas, signed at Batesville, 27 January, 1862 to U. Maxfield for expenses of gun shop.  Uriah Maxfield moved to Batesville in 1841 and ran a tannery and boot shop but also did gun repairs. Half page printed form filled in and signed.

24      CSA $1000 six percent Bond, CR-154, B-366.  Vignette rural scene with man at turnstile.  Issued at Savannah, GA. Sept. 15, 1864, white paper, signed and numbered #8319.  VF, R-3

25      CSA Interim Depository Receipt, $5000, issued at Columbia, SC, August 30, 1864.  4 per cent. Unc., white paper.

26      CSA Interim Depository Receipt, $1000, issued at Charleston, SC, March 18, 1864.  4 percent, blue paper

27      Widow’s application for pension, State of Arkansas for J.M. Mims of the 7th regt. Arkansas Infantry, dated Feb. 10th, 1910 in Logan County.  Filled in printed form, signed and notarized, filed at Caulksville P.O., Logan County.

28      Official program of the 36th Annual Reunion of the United Confederate Veterans at Birmingham, AL May 18-21, 1926.  Also the 27th Reunion of the Confederated Southern Memorial Association and the 31st Annual Reunion of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.  12 page printed pamphlet.

29      Printed General Orders #7 of 1903 and #9 of 1904 of the Headquarters, Alabama Division of the United Sons of Confederate Veterans, printed, 4 page.

30      Four salesman specimen letterheads from Paducah Printing Co. for the United Daughters of the Confederacy, 1942.  Postcard with flag logo and address, return address on small envelope, return on invitation envelope and letterhead for stationery, includes letter from printing company with prices.

31      Norfolk & Petersburg Railroad stock certificate signed by former Confederate Major General William Mahone September 5, 1868.  Cut cancelled.         

32      Land grant document signed by then Governor of Missouri and future Confederate General Sterling Price April 13, 1853.  Price was in command of the Department of Arkansas and turned back Steele in the Camden expedition.  Blue paper, 12 ½ X 15 ¾ embossed seal. Some foxing, holes at folds.

33      Kentucky pre-Civil War document signed by John Adair, Governor from 1820-1824 and his secretary John C. Breckinridge, father of the Confederate general of the same name.  Appointing Jacob White Justice of the Peace for Madison County, November 10, 1821.  Printed form filled in and signed.

34      Clipped signature, Confederate Brigadier General James Connor, commanded 22nd North Carolina, post war attorney general, South Carolina.

35      4 page autographed letter from John Tyler Morgan, former Confederate general  of the 51st Alabama Partisan Rangers, as Senator from Washington, 1878.         

36      Stock certificate for the Arkansas Valley Trust Company of Ft. Smith, AR signed by Clifton Rhodes Breckinridge, Representative from Arkansas, served in the Confederacy, son of John C. Breckinridge.  Signed 1906, cancelled 1925.

37      Signed financial note dated Jan. 11, 1873 from A.H. Garland, former CSA congressman, later Governor and Senator from Arkansas and US Attorney General in the Cleveland administration. Half sheet lined paper, dated and signed.        

38      Clipped signature, James K Jones, Congressman and Senator from Arkansas, former CSA soldier.

40      Signed railroad bill of lading from Norfolk and Western Railroad Company.  Signed by E.E. Portlock, Jr., Colonel in the Confederate Army, served in the 24th Arkansas Infantry, Chickamauga, Atlanta, and in Tennessee with Hood.  Signed October of 1883 as agent of the railroad, printed form filled in and signed.
