The Paul Van Rite Benefit Auction Paul Van Rite recently received the devastating diagnosis of stage 4 kidney cancer. The cancer is extremely aggressive and he is currently receiving hospice care at home after undergoing very brutal and expensive treatment. Paul’s wife, Barb, lost her job and their insurance when Shopko went out of business. She was able to get a part-time retail position, but couldn’t continue to work as she cares for Paul. The insurance they were able to get is high deductible/high co-pay, leaving them with a pile of bills. Paul proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1976-1983, however, his cancer is not considered service related so he is not getting any VA assistance. We originally planned a benefit to assist Paul and Barb with the unforgiving medical bills that go along with this ruthless disease, however, with the COVID-19 Pandemic we were unable to hold the benefit as we’d hoped. Since we don’t have any idea when we might be able to safely gather together in large groups, we’ve decided to offer items up for auction instead of the basket raffles we’d originally planned. There’s a wide variety of items for auction – we’re sure you’ll find something you just have to have. If your bids aren’t successful but you’d still like to help, donations are being accepted at Simonet’s Bar. Donations can also be made at any Nicolet Bank branch to the “Paul Van Rite Benefit Fund”.
