Nicknames sometimes say a great deal about the person they are attached to. Ted Lindsay's moniker - 'Terrible Ted' and 'Scarface' - tells only half of his story.
Ted Lindsay played in the National Hockey League from 1944-1965 was a fierce brawler who broke NHL records for most penalty minutes. Standing at just 5’ 8” Lindsay was feared by much larger opponents and by the end of his career, he received over 400 stitches to his face! However, Lindsay was also a gifted offensive player who set NHL scoring titles and won the Art Ross Trophy for leading the league in goals in 1950.
Lindsay was also a member of the most famous line in NHL history, The Production Line featuring Gordie Howe and Sid Abel. Furthermore, Lindsay was instrumental in the greatest years of Detroit Red Wings franchise history where the Red Wings won seven straight league titles and four Stanley Cups in the 1950’s.
Lindsay started a NHL tradition as he was the first to hoist the Stanley Cup over his head and skate the trophy around the rink for the fans to see.
Lindsay also served as the General Manager and head coach of the Detroit Red Wings in the late 1970’s and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1966. In 1991, the Detroit Red Wings gave Lindsay the ultimate honor by retiring his famous number 7.
Ted Lindsay will appear at the St. Jude All-Star Auction event to meet fans and sign autographs. Autograph ticket prices are $10.00 and all proceeds will benefit the kids at St. Jude. Pucks and photographs will be available on site.
