Our Seller has traveled extensively and worked with an Non-Profit in Loas from 1970 to 1975 and came out with the evacuation. Then she later served with US Embassy refugee resettlement program in Thailand both at the Embassy and in the field at a number of different camps We also have fine jewelry and art from two other local estates. 10 and 14k Gold and Sterling Silver jewelry featuring precious and semi-precious stones. Bulova and Helbros watches along with other familiar names are included. We have Vintage Costume and collectible jewelry along with Vintage lighters and other cool accessories. The KHENE (also spelled khaen) is the oldest Lao instrument, believed to have been used during the Lan Xang era (1357 - 1707). The khene is a mouth organ with pipes made of bamboo. It is played through blowing through a hole. Multiple tones can be made simultaneously. The khene can be made in a particular key however after it's put together, it cannot be tuned. The khene can be played solo, in a classical orchestra or as an accompaniment to Lao folk songs. Asia note detail and subtle texture in clay form D:8" tall 63 Original painting by Maine based Artist and Educator Nancy Fowler depicting man and woman in the summer ( or season) of love D: 20" x 22-1/4" 64 Burmese Painted wooden and lacquered table From Burma /Myanmar In Burma the art of Lacquer, known as "Pan-Yun" in Burmese, is considered one of the highest forms of art. It requires great skill on the part of the artist. Black lacquer is the most commonly used, but an orange lacquer (normally called "Red lacquer"), such as our table here , is also used. Both come from the sap of a tropical hardwood tree. The artist begins with a bamboo or, rarely, teak base. He then coats with with a layer of lacquer mixed with ashes and leaves it in a cellar to dry. He repeats this until there are 5 layers, then he adds two more layers of pure lacquer. When it comes time to add color, the artist scratches out lines for one color with a very fine knife, then mixes one colorant with water and spreads the paste over the item. After letting it set for several days, he wipes off the colorant (which remains in the lines), puts a resin over the colored lines, and starts over with the next color. This continues until all the colors are added. Our Seller has traveled extensively and worked with an Non-Profit in Loas from 1970 to 1975 and came out with the evacuation.
Then she later served with US Embassy refugee resettlement program in Thailand both at the Embassy and in the field at a number of different camps

Khene instrument- condition as shown.
The KHENE (also spelled khaen) is the oldest Lao instrument, believed to have been used during the Lan Xang era (1357 - 1707).
The khene is a mouth organ with pipes made of bamboo. It is played through blowing through a hole. Multiple tones can be made simultaneously. The khene can be made in a particular key however after it's put together, it cannot be tuned. The khene can be played solo, in a classical orchestra or as an accompaniment to Lao folk songs.

Hmong Hill Tribe hand stitched Story Cloth-
- The artistic tradition of Paj NTaub (pronounced Pan-Dow) means “Flower Cloth” and is a traditional form Hmong textile work that combines embroidery and reverse appliqué techniques. These were used to form geometric patterns in fabric that have had specific symbolic meanings. As the Hmong faced the upheaval of war and immigration, their textile traditions have both provided a link for Hmong Americans to continue perpetuating their culture, as well as evolving to encompass new experiences. While in the refugee camps in Thailand, Paj Ntaub techniques evolved and artists began creating Story Cloths, embroidered picture textiles that illustrate experiences of the Hmong people, from scenes of agricultural life into images of the war and their exile from Laos.

Burmese Painted wooden and lacquered table From
Burma /Myanmar

In Burma the art of Lacquer, known as "Pan-Yun" in Burmese, is considered one of the highest forms of art. It requires great skill on the part of the artist. Black lacquer is the most commonly used, but an orange lacquer (normally called "Red lacquer"), such as our table here , is also used. Both come from the sap of a tropical hardwood tree.
The artist begins with a bamboo or, rarely, teak base. He then coats with with a layer of lacquer mixed with ashes and leaves it in a cellar to dry. He repeats this until there are 5 layers, then he adds two more layers of pure lacquer. When it comes time to add color, the artist scratches out lines for one color with a very fine knife, then mixes one colorant with water and spreads the paste over the item. After letting it set for several days, he wipes off the colorant (which remains in the lines), puts a resin over the colored lines, and starts over with the next color. This continues until all the colors are added. He then polishes the piece with fine talcum powder to remove the resin and make the item shine.

It requires great skill on the part of the artist. Black lacquer is the most commonly used, but an orange lacquer (normally called "Red lacquer"), such as our table here , is also used. Both come from the sap of a tropical hardwood tree. The artist begins with a bamboo or, rarely, teak base. He then coats with with a layer of lacquer mixed with ashes and leaves it in a cellar to dry. He repeats this until there are 5 layers, then he adds two more layers of pure lacquer. When it comes time to add color, the artist scratches out lines for one color with a very fine knife, then mixes one colorant with water and spreads the paste over the item. After letting it set for several days, he wipes off the colorant (which remains in the lines), puts a resin over the colored lines, and starts over with the next color. This continues until all the colors are added. Hmong Hill Tribe hand stitched Story Cloth-
- The artistic tradition of Paj NTaub (pronounced Pan-Dow) means “Flower Cloth” and is a traditional form Hmong textile work that combines embroidery and reverse appliqué techniques. These were used to form geometric patterns in fabric that have had specific symbolic meanings. As the Hmong faced the upheaval of war and immigration, their textile traditions have both provided a link for Hmong Americans to continue perpetuating their culture, as well as evolving to encompass new experiences. While in the refugee camps in Thailand, Paj Ntaub techniques evolved and artists began creating Story Cloths, embroidered picture textiles that illustrate experiences of the Hmong people, from scenes of agricultural life into images of the war and their exile from Laos.
