Two Section Steel Spud Barge

The barge was purchased by the County in 2008 and has been used to support dredging operations. A Booster Station (CAT 32 & Hagler Pump with a weight of 30,000 lbs was on the deck with two flex hoses.

The date of manufacture/manufacturer has not been verified but it may have been built in 2000 by Marlin Barge Company.

The barge is in good condition consistent with age. It is ready to use as is. It could use general maintenance to include grinding the hatches, replacing the hatch seals, re-decking with plywood as needed or remove/replace the original oak planking. It should be hauled at some point and washed and the bottom painted. Both spuds are laying on the deck and the crane that was used to raise / lower the spuds have been removed so there is no way to raise / lower the spuds.

All pics are from 3/1.

Six out of 8 hatches were opened (the other two were not attempted but the conditions of these holds should be represented by the other pics). The stbd side holds were 'dry' with just moisture present. The port side holds had approx. 1" of standing water. Assuming that this water entered via the hatch seals. The last time these holds were inspected and dried was approximately two years ago. The shed on the deck does not come with the barge nor does the two anchors on the deck.

Dimensions:

There are two (2) Sections: each section is 70 feet (L) by 14.6 feet (which gives it a 29.2 foot beam) by 4 feet (deck to bottom). It is pinned together with 17 double headed pins.

Spuds: There are two (2) spuds with a height of 40 feet, and the diameter is either 12” or 14”.

Holds/Hatches: There are 8 holds/hatches.

Decking: It was originally oak planked, but it was covered over with 1" plywood and painted in 2020.

There is an 100 gallon diesel fuel tank aft that is accessible by the aft hatch. It is empty and hasn't been used for years.

The barge was last taken out of the water in 2016 for routine maintenance at the Fairhaven Shipyard where the hulls were separated, power washed, and the bottom was painted. There is a fender made of dredge pipe (STR-17 14" 1") that was cut in half and fastened along the side of the barge. There is no winch system on the deck, so the spuds cannot be lowered or raised. The spuds are laying on the deck.

When not in use, the barge was moored in shallow protected water. It was used on average one time per year for a 8 week period. There is some minor bowing of the hulls (in the middle). It is presently anchored in shallow water on Cape Cod and will either have to be moved via water or to a nearby yard for hauling, separating the hulls and transport over land.

All items are sold AS IS, WHERE IS, and bidders are encouraged to inspect before placing a bid.
