Online Only Auction Wednesday, Sept. 13 of the Herald-Times (H-T) Archives 1950 to 2013.
Over 980 bound volumes are being sold.
"When I started at the H-T, the staff had many concerns, but chief among them was the fate of this collection. Its fate, while still somewhat mysterious, has been determined nonetheless. From Aug. 25 to Sept. 13, around 1,000 books of original newspapers from the H-T archive will be offered at auction by our partner Estate and Downsizing Specialists. EDS has generously agreed to forego a percentage of the proceeds, collecting instead a buyers fee of 15% of the sales price.
To my knowledge, this has never been done before. Whatever money is raised will be deposited in a new fund at the Community Foundation of Bloomington Monroe County called the Local News Fund. You can see the fund's purpose and make a contribution online at https://shorturl.at/xIWYZ or by mailing a check to Community Foundation of Bloomington Monroe County, 100 S. College Ave., Suite 240, Bloomington, IN 47404. Please include Local News Fund in the memo line."
Jill Bond, H-T July 14, 2023.
Lots are to be picked up at the Cook Medical storage facility on Profile Parkway off Curry Pike on Friday, September 15 from 10 AM to 4 PM only. This is a secure facility, please see your email with invoice for directions. You will need to have your paid receipt to enter the property.
All purchases will be by credit card on file - cash will not be accepted for this auction without prior approval from EDS before bidding. There will be no discount for cash.
Lots not picked up on site during the pick up hours are subject to a $5 handling fee per lot and must be scheduled with EDS immediately following the auction. Any lots
Shipping is available for all lots in this auction. Handling is a flat fee of $25 per volume. Shipping is additional dependent on location per USPS Ground and may cost up to $55 per volume. Due to binding sizes many lots are not viable for Media Mail.
EDS and Volunteers have made every effort to note condition, however, please know that these were working volumes used for research and may be missing pages or articles. While every attempt has been made to note condition, not every page has been turned. Newsprint is very fragile and not intended for long term use, edges may be brittle, most are yellowed. Read every listing description carefully. Many volumes are missing interior pages - do not assume that a volume will be complete, i.e. August 1962 binder is missing the August 5th edition with Marilyn Monroe's death.
There is no preview for this auction due to the necessity of organization and parties involved, however, you are welcome to email a question to EDSOnlineAuctions@gmail.com regarding specific volumes.
