Listing Information
Ward and Bernice Anthony (1938-2022/2023) were avid antique collectors with a love of primitive and Early American styles. As such, they discovered and were drawn to the simplicity and design of Shaker furniture. In the early 1980s they travelled to visit The Sabbath Day Lake Shaker community, and thus began a forty year long relationship with the Brothers, Sisters, and supporting friends. Their relationship took on many levels as Bernice and Ward visited several times each year; from helping hands, to Board Members, to friends. They remained very close with the remaining Shaker members at Sabbath Day Lake and over the years exchanged letters, cards, and gifts on holidays and special occasions. Several of their items have been donated for display in the Shaker Museum and most other items are included in this sale. In addition to their own collection of antique furniture, art, and decoratives, they inherited estates from Bernices mother (herself an antique collector who had retained her parents household items) and Wards parents, with many items passed down from his mothers family in England. These items are included in this sale as well and provide a broad offering of Early Americana items, British silver, linens, and his mothers collection of Orientalia.
