MTI RM-1 Research Grade Friction Weld System
The system is an MTI RM-1 research grade friction stir weld system built in 2010 with custom high speed data acquisition system. This is the first RM-1 with the high speed DAQ system for recording loads on the weld tool, torque, and travel speeds.
The system was used for academic research activities primarily for aluminum alloys from 2010-2015 then recalibrated in 2021 by Bond Technologies.
Included in the equipment is the:
- FSW system - High speed DAQ - Water-cooled tool holder (leak in connector) - Chiller for water-cooled tool holder - Basic anvil with clamps - Tool holder with telemetry to temperature measurement - Original drawings and manuals.
The water cooled tool holder came from the vendor cross-threaded and dripped. The previous professor rarely used it and it is assumed to still be cross- threaded.
Air cooled spindle is currently installed in the machine
Product dimensions are estimated at 10ft x 10ft x10ft and weighs around 9,000 lbs.
