Timber Frame

This year's timber frame was lovingly created and designed especially for Project Horizon's 40th anniversary gala. Built using human-powered hand tools (chisels, hand saws, and old fashion boring machines), over 600 volunteer hours went into its creation, infusing care and craft into the joinery details. Architectural and design services were donated by Grigg Mullen Jr and Trevor Mitchell. The lumber was donated by Tom Sheets of Blue Ridge Lumber in Fishersville. The frame is built out of pine, poplar, cherry, and oak. Its flooring system is rot resistant white-oak while its walls are pre-sided and enclosed, with windows donated by Eric Spencer of Spencer Home Center in Lexington.

The interior of the frame features live edge cherry and walnut braces which adds some playful whimsy that can be dressed up to create an Airbnb getaway or kept as a backyard art studio, retreat space, or workshop shed.  Delivered as a complete unit, the winning bidder will receive all of the following: A timber frame measuring 10' x 16' at the floor corners and extending to 22' long inclusive of the gable overhangs, and fully installed floor joists, flooring, rafters, siding, and windows. The frame will be delivered to a local or regionally accessible property of the winning bidder's choosing. The winning bidder is responsible for construction of a foundation for the structure, the selection and installation of appropriate roofing materials (wooden shakes, thatch, or metal roofing) and final finishings of their own choosing,
