This is a timed closing auction. Not every item ends exactly at 7:00pm on 9/8. Starting at 7:00pm, the first 4 lots will start to close. At 7:01 the next 3 lots will start to close. At 7:02 3 more lots will start to close and so on until all lots have closed out at about 9:15pm, over 2 hours after the auction first started to close. If you or anybody else bids within the final 2 minutes of the close on any given lot, the bidding will automatically extend for another 2 minutes to allow other bidders to place a counter bid. This will continue until there is no further bidding activity within a 2 minute time frame. This is by design and that's what makes it a true auction. If you want to be the successful high bidder then you have to be the person who is willing to bid the highest; it's not possible to "snipe" the bid. Bidding Tips When you click on the bid bar, (and then click again to "confirm bid") you are placing a bid for the next automatic increment. If you click on the down arrow on the right side of the bar you can select from Create Maxbid which will let the computer automatically place your bids for you up to, but not past, the amount you enter. This works like the live auction absentee bid and is entirely automatic after you place you maximum bid.

Merchandise Pick-Up Dates and Times
Pick up is scheduled alphabetically for Last name starting with letters A-L on Wednesday, Sept. 14 from 2-6PM and last name M-Z on Thursday Sept 15 from 2-6PM. It is alright to come on the opposite day if you have a scheduling conflict; please call or email to advise. You must pick up during these time periods if you intend to pay with cash or check. Customers who do not pick up during the scheduled time period will have their credit card charged after 6PM on Thursday unless other arrangements have been made. We do not automatically charge your card unless you don't pick up during the scheduled time period or call us to make other arrangements. If the scheduled dates and times don't work for you please call us to see if we can accommodate you.

Terms And Conditions
When you register as a new bidder the credit card you register with will have an authorization check performed. In order to successfully register, the address that you register under must match the address on the credit card. The credit card used for registration will be automatically charged following the auction unless you make payment during the scheduled pick up time. If alternative payment is approved we accept cash, personal or cashier’s checks or wire transfers. Certain purchases such as coins, precious metals, guns and vehicles may require payment by wire transfer or certified cashier’s check ONLY. This auction features an auto bid extend. When a bid is placed in the final 2 minutes of bidding the auction bidding will automatically be extended 2 minutes from the time the bid was placed. ie: If an auction is scheduled to close at 7:00PM, receives a bid at 6:58 the close time will automatically extend two minutes. The auto extend feature remains active until no further bids are received within a 2 minute time frame.

Lithia Beer On Tap, convex ROG Gillco lighted sign
This is the only known intact example. It has no apologies, as nice as you'd want to find any sign. This is one of the holiest of grails for West Bend collectors. 13.5 x 13.5. There is one other example known and it is also currently residing under my roof. For many years it graced the backbar of a well known and popular West Bend establishment where I tried, unsuccessfully, to buy it from the owner. To his credit, he refused my offers as it was gifted to him and reselling it would be classless. He eventually closed his bar and the sign was placed in a box and set on a windowsill at his house. Where his cat decided it would look better on the floor. So now I have the Gillco frame and several dozen pieces of the lens. What's left of it will be sold at a future auction.

Convex ROG Lithia Beer On Tap glass lens
One of two currently known to exist. Several years ago, in my late father's personal effects, I found a Polaroid photograph of one of these signs taken on a 1970's shag rug. I had never seen, nor heard, of this sign before and by the time I found the photo, my dad had passed. When I hung this for display several month ago a man came up and asked if I knew the story behind it. I did not, but was all ears. Here's the story...
In the late 60's, Lithia tore out a brick wall on the back of the brewery to replace some equipment. This man was in high school at the time and he and a buddy were horsing around by the river and decided to explore the construction area. When the brick wall was pulled down, it fell on top of a wooden storage shed and pretty much destroyed it, including a wooden crate that held 6 of these signs. Four were demolished and two were intact. Two boys - two signs. Do the math. The man telling me the story sold his sign about a week later to Ralph. I asked what happened to the other sign. He said he had no idea but he'd call his buddy and ask him. The following day he called me back and said that his buddy also sold his sign to Ralph about two weeks later. Ralph didn't need two signs so he sold one off to another collector who still has it to this day. So there you have it. The two discolored spots shown in the photos are where rubber spacers are adhered to the back side of the glass, apparently as part of the manufacturing process or relevant to how the lens was intended to be mounted. Because there are no known images of this sign in use its intended frame or manner of display are unknown. It's a fairly stout piece of glass. About 24"dia. not including the oak frame.

Excellent, all original condition but has been rewired. 2 very small areas of paint loss at the front, bottom of the glass as shown in the photos.

Bowey's Old Style Root Beer Porcelain Barrel Sign.
There's something about this sign that just draws people in. While it was on display it got as many comments as some of the bigger ticket beer signs. An unfortunate chip above the letter "S", but otherwise not too bad. I believe the "creamy or solid" refers to the liquid, (bottled) form or the solid form of extract for making your own. The sign would have originally been mounted on a barrel tapper. No barrel is part of this lot or this auction
