IF YOU READ NOTHING ELSE, READ THIS!
405This is a timed closing auction. Not every item ends exactly at 7:00pm on 3/10. Starting at 7:00pm, the first 4 lots will start to close. At 7:01 the next 3 lots will start to close. At 7:02 3 more lots will start to close and so on until all lots have closed out at about 9:00pm, 2 hours after the auction first started to close. If you or anybody else bids within the final 2 minutes of the close on any given lot, the bidding will automatically extend for another 2 minutes to allow other bidders to place a counter bid. This will continue until there is no further bidding activity within a 2 minute time frame. This is by design and that's what makes it a true auction. If you want to be the successful high bidder then you have to be the person who is willing to bid the highest; it's not possible to "snipe" the bid. If you have any questions at all, please call me, I'm happy to explain it.
Bidding Tips When you click on the bid bar, (and then click again to "confirm bid") you are placing a bid for the next automatic increment. If you click on the down arrow on the right side of the bar you can select from Create Maxbid which will let the computer automatically place your bids for you up to but not past the amount you enter. This works like the live auction absentee bid and is entirely automatic after you place you maximum bid.

If you have questions, ASK!

serinet or bird organ was intended to teach birds how to sing. I am not making this up. Apparently some birds were slower than others. I suppose that somewhere there is a companion piece that teaches birds how to fly. It's probably French. Appears to play 5 or 6 different tunes. I was not able to confirm this due to the fact that it doesn't currently work but the mechanism is quite similar to that of a music box. It's getting so that I'm reluctant to attribute stoneware anymore as the recent research being done is so thorough that they can pretty much tell you what the potter had for lunch that day. If you are into WI stoneware, visit madefromclay.org and read some of the fantastic research work being done. That being said, this is probably an Ohio churn. Professional repair to what seems have been a hairline on the back. UPDATE: I have just been informed that the potter of this piece had pickled herring on rye bread for lunch that day.

341
A large broadside promoting Temperence
Printed in Milwaukee of all places, these were available for $3.00 per hundred. White territory is dry. Black areas are the devils domain. Presumably WWI era from the "Kaiser" tie in. As long as we're demonizing Germans we may as well lump in their beverage of choice. Not the best of shape but frameable. 24x36

342
Classic Stag & cow hotel lobby sand jar.

Litho on paper by Linard, Chicago, with faux matting. Scene of a young lad hitting on a fetching young thing while a spurned suitor sulks at the other end of the fence. Not entirely sure how "axle grease" fits in to this equation, but whatever. Some discoloration but overall good. 30x23 framed.

Folding ironing board
When people ask me if I miss live auctions I think of folding iron boards. I'd have five teenage ringmen of which at least 4 would be honor students, 2 that would go on to graduate degrees and one that pulled a 35 on his SAT. I'd ask them to set up a folding ironing board so that I could sell it. Normally you'd have to pay a cover charge for that kind of entertainment. I miss that.

421
Exceptional ROG MWA Modern Woodmen of America exterior, oil lamp lodge sign
In my opinion this is the star of the sale. According to a piece of paper with the sign it originally hung in Harvard, IL. Designed as an outdoor corner sign, it could be illuminated using an oil lamp that is still with it. The only apology that I can find is that the lower hinge on the access door needs to be repaired. How this piece survived without some kid throwing a rock through it is beyond me. But then, none of my relatives lived in Harvard. Or attended the other one. 17" ea. side. 24"H overall.

209
4 gallon decorated butter churn
It's getting so that I'm reluctant to attribute stoneware anymore as the recent research being done is so thorough that they can pretty much tell you what the potter had for lunch that day. If you are into WI stoneware, visit madefromclay.org and read some of the fantastic research work being done. That being said, this is probably an Ohio churn. Professional repair to what seems have been a hairline on the back. UPDATE: I have just been informed that the potter of this piece had pickled herring on rye bread for lunch that day.
