By registering in our auction today you agree to our terms & conditions and will be bound by those Terms and Conditions. The successful high bidder on this property will be required to sign a Real Estate Sales Contract, Terms & Conditions, and any other documents needed immediately upon conclusion of the bidding and will make an earnest money deposit of of 10% down . A ten percent (10%) buyer's premium will be added to the high bid to establish the total sales contract price. Payment may be made by personal check; cashier's check or cash. The balance is to be paid in full at closing within 30 days of the auction. Current taxes will be prorated at the date of closing. Seller will provide the deed. Buyer is responsible for title opinion, title insurance and recording fees. Customary closing costs will be paid by the buyer. Buyer is to obtain their own financing. We have had the esteemed pleasure of getting to know the remarkable lives of Ms. Joan Silva and Dr. Ralph Kniseley through researching and presenting to you their lovely Estate. Ms. Silva and Dr. Kniseley were both very accomplished indiviuals, both traveling the world and educating themselves far beyond the scholastic bounds. Their collection of fine Persian hand woven carpets, Art glass, Dr. Kniseley's original artworks and much more, made this an unforgettable experience. Ms. Silva's collection of antique tribal faturan bakelite, silver, and mixed metal jewelry from the Middle East and Asia is truly remarkable. Joan graduated from Pendleton High School in Pendleton, Oregon, in 1949, and attended the University of Oregon in Eugene, where she met and married her husband, Dr. Robert Silva in 1950. They moved to San Leandro, California to start their family in 1951. In 1959 they moved to Oak Ridge, Tennessee with their 3 children. While there she was involved in many activities, such as her own cable T.V. program, numerous Oak Ridge Playhouse productions, finished her Nursing Degree and began her lifelong career as a published writer of poetry and novels, including her historical novel entitled "Kreka: Barbarian Queen", which was released in 1999. In 1973 Joan married Dr. Ralph Kniseley. They moved to Vienna, Austria for 2 years, where they enjoyed many wonderful travels throughout Europe. Later they also traveled to China and Africa on a safari on the Serengeti. After returning from Vienna they settled in Emmett, Idaho where she managed their medical practice for 21 years. They then returned to Oak Ridge to enjoy their many lifelong friends and their retirement. Joan was a devoted animal lover and raised many pedigreed German Shepherds, and was a lifelong advocate and fighter for civil rights and equal rights for women. She lived an exciting and full life and was an extraordinary person who left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Ralph graduated from the University of Pittsburgh cum laude. ln medical school he was elected to AOA, the honorary medical fraternity. He received his MD in 1943 at age 23. After his internship, he was awarded a fellowship in pathology at the Mayo Clinic. From 1946 to 1948, Ralph served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps and then completed his residency in pathology at the Mayo Clinic. In 1949 he became the first pathologist at the Lovelace Clinic in Albuquerque, NM. In 1951 his lifelong friend Paul Spray encouraged him to move to Oak Ridge, where was appointed pathologist for both the Oak Ridge Hospital and the Medical Division of Oak Ridge Associated Universities. Later as chief of clinical research and training, and subsequently associate chairman, he specialized in using radioisotopes in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. In 1962 Ralph was an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) visiting professor at the Japanese National Institute of Radiological Sciences at Chiba, Japan, where he taught a course on the medical uses of radioisotopes. In the late 1960s he served on a National Institutes of Health research grants committee. In 1973 he was appointed director of the Life Sciences Division of the IAEA in Vienna, Austria. Ralph authored or co-authored more than 35 scientific papers and co-edited three books. The American Board of Pathology named him representative to the American Board of Nuclear Medicine, where he served as a Founding Member and Life Member. Along with other original Board members, he received the Hevesy Pioneer in Nuclear Medicine award. In 1947, he married Helen Sutton and they had five children. Helen died in 1961. He married Frances Sutton in 1963. They were divorced in 1973. In 1973 he married Joan Silva. After completing his two-year appointment with the IAEA in Vienna, he and Joan settled in Emmett, Idaho, where they founded a private medical practice and cared for patients until he retired in 1988. He served on the Emmett Hospital Board of Directors and was elected medical staff chair. After retiring, he continued to see patients at the Physicians Immediate Care Center in Boise, where he was medical director. In 1994, he and Joan returned home to Oak Ridge where he continued part-time clinical practice. He retired at age 80. Ralph was a lifelong artist. He had numerous exhibitions and received several awards, and is represented in many collections nationwide. About 50 paintings are on permanent display in the University of Pittsburgh medical school library. In his earlier years, he was a Unitarian. He served as president and choir director of the Oak Ridge Unitarian Church and raised his children in that faith. In the 1950s he helped found the Oak Ridge Art Center. He was a board member of the Mental Health Center and active in the Oak Ridge Playhouse. He was a strong supporter of feminism and desegregation as well as other Liberal causes and social issues, and served on the National Board of Planned Parenthood in the 1970s. When Ralph was younger, he performed in musical theatre and choral groups and developed a lifelong devotion to music. Among his other enduring interests were tennis and gardening. He had a great spirit of adventure and loved to be challenged, which showed itself in his learning to fly, ski, sail, ride horses, and travel off beaten paths. He traveled extensively in Asia, the Near East, Mexico, the Caribbean, Africa, Peru, Morocco, and Europe. He visited many archeologic sites and enjoyed meeting and learning about people wherever he went. This is an auction to remember, a once in a lifetime Estate!
