Listing Information

Robert and Ann Slater were on one of their numerous trips north of Fancy Gap Highway traveling to the Blue Ridge Parkway in April 2010. This trip to their surprise was not for the day, but for the beginning of an adventure of a lifetime.
Originally from Walkertown, NC, Robert and Ann began a venture to open The A.B.C. Nook Antiques & Collectibles in May 2010 at 11946 Fancy Gap Highway.
Entering onto a blank canvass, time would be the mark of dots, dashes, and strokes on every nook and cranny of this master piece. Gods hand led them through the minutes, hours, days, months and years of good times and bad but never left them alone.
Along the way, Robert and Ann were blessed to meet many of the fellow business owners who would mentor them through their transition as a business owner. For this, they say: "Thank you" to each everyone of them.
The Slaters knew this would be their mission field, they felt God truly led them here. This journey brought them many visitors, some needing more than an antique or collectible. There were visitors needing a smile, a big belly laugh, a kind word, a shoulder to cry on, or just a simple break from life. Their needs were many. Then, other days the ones needing a missionary would be the Slaters themselves. And, the Slaters truly felt they always received the blessings when they needed it from you their customers, neighbors, family and friends. God seemed to always bring in the perfect visitor at the right time.
Robert and Ann's lives would be changed forever by the people of Carroll County, Surry County and surrounding counties. They felt blessed with travelers from all over the world going up and down Highway 52. For this, Robert and Ann send their many thanks to each person who entered into their doors and their hearts at the A.B.C. Nook Antiques & Collectibles these past nine years.
The Slaters also give God their thanks for leading them through the doors of Hope Community Church. They are grateful for their church family. They feel words can't express their gratitude for the prayers, encouragement, and spiritual leadership they received through some difficult trials.
The years have passed and the Slaters have experienced many changes. Robert was stricken down with life altering health issues. These conditions would challenge their limitations on the day to day operations of their business. The A.B.C. Nook Antiques & Collectibles, however, would be the drive and encouragement for him to push through those difficult days and nights. Although, Robert has made a remarkable recovery, he will never be 100%. During this past year several of their immediate family and close friends have been called home to heaven. These events have opened their eyes to their own destiny as well.
Robert and Ann have realized time is short and how precious their family and friends really are to them. Being in business for nine years and the lack of relaxation has also aged both of them. They are looking forward to having time to travel, fish, shop, volunteer, and being in service to their Lord.
After liquidating their store inventory and closing their business doors, the Slaters will carry the footprints of each person that crossed their store thresh point with them forever. Robert and Ann will cherish the many memories of their life in the Virginia Foothills. Please accept their many thanks to you for giving them the opportunity to have been a part of your life.
