LOVELY SELECTION OF STERLING SILVER, EXCELLENT FURNITURE, CRYSTAL, CARPETS, CHINA FROM A MULTI GENERATIONAL HOME IN NEW EDINBURGH AREA IN OTTAWA.
This sale's contents originate from a family with considerable impact on Canada's growth. Scotsman John Mather came to Canada in 1857 to manage timber operations for one of the Ottawa Valley's largest lumber companies. In the late 1870s, Mather founded the Keewatin Lumbering and Manufacturing Company, at Lake of the Woods, on the eve of the Canadian Pacific Railway's construction and the early development of Winnipeg. Mather was a director of the Bank of Ottawa and the Lake of the Woods Milling Company (Five Roses Flour), whose shareholders included officials of Canadian Pacific. One of Mather's sons – David –ultimately moved to Winnipeg in the early 1900s. His son, William Mather, joined the CPR and rose to become the railway's seventh President in 1948. Items for sale reflect more than a century of life in central and western Canada. 1 PAIR OF JOHN ROUND STERLING SILVER CANDELABA SHEFFIELD ENGLAND 1903 THREE BRANCH WITH THREE DETACHBLE NOZZLES AND SPREAD ARMS EACH NUMBERED CENTER IS DETACHABLE ADJUSTING HEIGHT STAMPED ON BASE MAPLE & Co LONDON MEASURING 22'H X 14"W 1 SPECTACULAR MAPLE & CO OF LONDON LONG CASE CLOCK THIS CLOCK IS MODELED AFTER A HENRY POISSON.
