THE ANNISTON INN KITCHEN

The historic Anniston Inn was built in 1885 by Anniston founding fathers Samuel Noble and Alfred Tyler.  The Anniston Inn was destroyed by fire on January 2nd 1923, all that survived was the four story 9,000+/- SQF kitchen, servant’s quarters and dining hall. Local residents James and Patsy Cotton painstakingly restored it to its original grandeur. The inn was placed on the Nation Register of Historic Places in 1973.

The Inns Queen Anne styled Grand Dining Hall seats more than 70 people. The Inns elegance and grandeur make it, a perfect wedding venue, and event center. The inn has hosted wedding receptions, rehearsal dinners, bridal showers, bridal teas, as an event center it has been a favored location for proms,   graduation parties, business conferences, company parties and Christmas event s and even small concerts.  The inns large manicured grounds and gardens make the Inn an ideal location for outdoor events.

The ground level foyer enters into a large 40*15 gathering area adjoining the ornately decorated   40*20 Queen Ann influenced grand dining hall.  The dining hall features transom windows, ornate moldings and heavily beamed 17 foot ceilings.  Two half baths, a smaller a meeting room, and service kitchen are also located on the entry level

The second floor is divided into separate rooms to be used as dressing rooms as well as event, training, and meeting areas. It also features a small kitchen and full bath.

The third floor serves as the current owner’s residence and includes an over sized den with a study, modern kitchen, dining room, breakfast nook, three bedrooms, and bath with a claw-foot tub original to the Inn.

The lower level contains two full, modernized apartments: one 1-bedroom and one 2-bedroom; both have private outside entrances and are secured from the upper business levels.

The historic Anniston Inn was designed by well-known architect George T. Pearson and built in 1885 by Anniston founding fathers Samuel Noble and Alfred Tyler. The five-story Queen Ann-styled structure was a masterpiece renowned for its grand style, architecture, and craftsmanship. The inn was the first of its kind equipped with electric lighting, generated from an onsite dynamo. Sightseers and travelers came from miles around to admire this magnificent structure with the then-new innovation of electric lighting. It is one of the last remaining historic sites in Anniston to feature hands-on work from the city’s founding fathers.

The hotel section of the Anniston Inn was destroyed by fire on January 2, 1923; all that survived was the four-story kitchen, along with the servants’ living and dining quarters. After years of neglect, the inn was scheduled for demolition. However, local residents James and Patsy Cotton had a vision of what the Inn could be, rescued it from demolition, and painstakingly restored it to its original grandeur. It earned its place on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 and stands today as a community and regional landmark.
