Preview: Sunday, March 8 11 AM - 4 PM & Friday, March 13 10 AM - 4 PM For over 50 years the name Dishman has been synonymous with the word “antique”. Dishman’s Antiques was first opened in Weaver, Alabama in an old skating rink. As the reputation for fine furniture grew, so did the need for additional space. Over the span of 50+ years, the business expanded to more than 27,000 square feet in Wellington, Alabama. Throughout the years, Mr. Dishman travelled the world bringing container loads of antiques into the US. He travelled to Mexico, Venezuela, and several areas in England. Customers would be so excited about his finds that they would come and help unload so as to get first pick of the new items. Upon the passing of Mr. Dishman, Mrs. Dishman continued the tradition of travelling abroad as well as the US. Both had a great “eye for buying antiques and were excellent negotiators. The business morphed into an antique mall with rented booth space but quickly returned to a single person shop due to the massive amounts of antiques owned by the family. Throughout the years, Ms. Dishman, Carl (son), and June (daughter) ran the family business. In the last few years, Ms. Dishman has had several health issues. The family kept the business open for a few years but found that Ms. Dishman needed them home with her. As a result, the family has decided to host one large auction to close the family business. |
