This entire collection has been on exhibit at the St. Lawrence County's Historical Association Museum for the last year and a half. This one owner collection represents spans several centuries of lighting here in the United States. There are many unique and unusual pieces in this collection that have taken a lifetime to accumulate. 1 3 Early Betty Lamps each hand forged, early 1800's. 2 4 Wick Crusie Lamp with forged loop for hanging and a pick to move wick. 1700's. 3 Double-Crusie Grease Lamp Double bowl with a hand forged hanger. The lower bowl caught the drippings and the wick rested in the spout. 4 Wooden Candle Holder, 18th Century and 4 tin candle molds along with a tin candle mold filler. 5 Brass Candle Stick with Drip Pan hole on socket for removal of candle. Dutch or spanish, 1650-1690. 6 Brass Wall Sconce Punch design on back. Dutch from mid 1700's. Along with a hammered copper wall sconce. 8 Brass Candle Stick w/ Hexagonal Base hole on side of socket for removal of candle. Dutch or Spanish, 1690-1720. Stands 6 3/4" tall. 9 Spiral Candle Holder 7 1/2" tall. Made of steel with wooden base. Circa 1740-1820. 10 Sticking Tommy Early Lighting Device early to mid 19th century. Pushed into wall of mine or hull of ship. Hand forged. 9 1/4" tall. 11 Brass-Taper Candle Box with fine engraving of Piet Pieterszoon Hein. (1577-1629). Dutch circa 1800. 6 5/8" wide x 5 1/4" tall. 12 Brass Tilt Top Candle Reflector circa 1840-1850. 10" tall x 6" diameter. 13 Brass-Taper Candle Stick circa 1830-1840. 4" tall. 14 Brass Trammel Circa 1800's - 17" long adjustable. 15 Hog Scraper Candle Holder with tab handle for hanging. 7" tall. 16 Hog Scraper Candle Holder made of steel with a brass wedding ring, early 19th century. 7 1/4" tall. 17 Brass Hog Scraper Candle Stick late 18th century, 6" tall. 18 Candle Holder Taper Jack 18th Century, used on a desk to melt sealing wax. 19 Blue and Green Candle Sticks 3 3/4" tall. 20 Pewter Candle Stick Made of Cast and Turned with removable bobeche. French, 1710-1740. 21 Candle Stick - Cast & Spun Pewter with push up. 1770-1820. English or American. (push up rod to remove candle stub) 22 Brass Push up Candlestick English style, early 1800's. 23 Brass Push up Candle Stick English, early 1800's, 9" tall. 24 Glass Candle Stick w/ Molded Base and hand blown socket with wafer. Made by The Boston & Sandwich Glass Co. 1840-1860. 10 1/4" tall. 25 Dolphin Vaseline Glass Candlestick with wafer, made by Boston & Sandwich Glass Company. Circa 1840-1850. 10 1/4" tall. 26 Clam Broth and Blue Glass Candle Stick 10" tall, made by The Boston & Sandwich Glass Company. Circa 1840-1850. 27 Rockingham Candle Stick Bennington, Vermont. 1849-1858. Damaged. Along with a wooden 13" tall candle reflector. 28 Pewter Candle Stick w/ Removable Bobeche circa 1800. 29 Opaque Clam Broth Candle Stick made of flint glass with wafer by the Boston & Sandwich Glass Company. Circa 1840-1850. 30 White Iron Stone Push Up Candle Stick made by Ridgeway Company. Registered July 18, 1841. England. 31 Pair of Traveling Candle Holders They were disassembled then reassembled into candle holders. Early 1800's. 41 Tin Petticoat Lamp with a Japanned finish. Lamp made to fit into a socket of a candle stick. 42 Pewter Whale Oil Gimble Lamp 5" tall. 43 Brass Whale Oil Lamp 7 1/2" tall. 44 Baker's Lamp this lamp was used to inspect the interior of a brick oven by inserting a wooden handle into the tin tube. 45 Clam Broth Oil Lamp made by the Boston & Sandwich Glass Company. No burner, 11" tall. 1850's - 1860's. 47 Wooden Lard Press made of wood with leather hinge, 18" long, circa 1850. 48 Tin Lard Lamp w/ Cast Iron Base brass plate embossed S. N. & H Cufford, 113 Court St. Boston. Patent 1851. 8 1/4" tall. 49 Pewter Lard Lamp w/ Wide Burner 6" tall. 50 Giant Sawtooth Pattern Oil Lamp with two tube burner. Circa 1850-1860. 11 3/4" tall. 51 Tin Wall Candle Lantern hexagonal shape with frosted and painted glass panels. Circa 1700's-early 1800's. 12" tall. 52 Hand Forged Iron 4 Arm Candelabra early 1800's 53 Toleware Oil Lamp w/ Holder 9" tall. 54 6 Early 1800's Whale & Fluid Oil Lamps largest is 6" tall and is damaged. 55 3 Piece Girandole Candelabra Set made of cast brass with a french gilt finish. 16 1/2" tall. With marble bases. 56 Wooden Candle Lantern with pegged construction. Early 19th century, 20" tall with wire snipe hinges and wire latch. Originally set at an entrance to a meeting house or church. 57 Hand Carried Wooden Lantern American or European, Early 19th Century, Candle lantern is 10" tall, one piece of glass is cracked. 58 Pierced Tin Lantern late 18th century, also referred to as a Paul Revere Lantern. Pierced design kept the flame from being extinguished. 16" tall. 59 Tin Lantern with a Ringed Handle and glass panels. Made with a tin liner to prevent fuel from soaking into lamp. 75 Cobalt Blue & Milk Glass Oil Lamp font has an owl and shield pattern, circa 1860's. 76 Ripley Lamp designed with 2 handles for easy with passing from one person to another. Made by The Ripley Co. Circa 1870's. 14" tall. 77 Lomax Lamp also referred to as an oil guard lamp. Patent 1870. 78 Brittania Hand Lamp made in the US. 1870's. 11 1/2' tall. Brittania is a metal alloy mostly or lead, copper and tin that looks like pewter but is harder. 79 Perkins & House Safety Oil Lamp Mid 1800's. This lamp has a center draft with air openings at the bottom of the font. 80 Wooden Oil Lamp font is turned in 2 pieces and has a tin liner. 16 1/4" tall 81 Cup and Saucer Oil Lamp circa 1875. with pontil mark. Lamp is shaped like an inverted cup on a saucer, no chimney 82 Brass Cup & Saucer Oil Lamp circa 1880's. 9 3/4" tall. 83 St. Lawrence Hand Lamp circa 1880's, attributed to Quebec Glass Houses in the Hudson-Como area. 11" tall. This lamp has a rayed pattern under the base "20 Rays". With a round center and an applied glass handle. 84 Peg Lamp Made of Cut Glass circa 1860's - 1890's. 85 Cottage Pattern Oil Lamp with an opaque white base. 15" tall. 86 Angle Lamp popular from the 1890's to the 1920's. Commonly used in stores and railroad cabooses. 87 Composite Oil Lamp with milk glass font and stem. Hand painted decorations. 1880's. No burner or chimney. 10 1/2" tall 95 2 Heart Pattern Oil Lamps one made with green glass, no burners or shades. 96 Milk Glass Oil Lamp New York Pattern, Made by the U.S. Glass Company, 11" tall. 97 Blue Glass Oil Lamp w/ Match Holder Base also includes a blue glass match holder. Circa 1890. 98 Amber Glass Oil allover stars pattern, made by The Central Glass Company in Wheeling, West Virginia. No chimney, lamp is 9" tall. 3 pieces. 99 Miniature Cabbage Rose Oil Lamp with molded chimney. Lamp is 12" tall and includes a swam match holder. 100 Finger Oil Lamp with pattern molded inside the font. Very unusual, patent 1882, no chimney. 101 Finger Lamp with Shield Pattern and small beads representing stars. Circa 1870. Made of clear glass. 102 Milk Glass Oil Lamp with painted flowers, 10" tall, no burner. 104 Composite Oil Lamp with hand painted milk glass stem and an Ives Blue Shade patent 1870's. 20 1/2" tall 105 Cobalt Blue Table Lamp Made in the Coolidge Drape Pattern. Circa 1880's - 1900. 19" tall. With a pattern glass chimney. 106 Composite Table Oil Lamp with an inverted pear shape font and green cased glass on a milk glass base. Circa 1860's. No chimney, 16" tall. 107 Marks Samuels Patent Lamp 1871, San Francisco, CA. The reservoir is in the form of an outer ring with a figural stem. 21 1/2" tall. 108 Acetylene Lamp late 1800's. 20" tall. 109 Mechanical Oil Lamp with a key wind clock work mechanism. Patent by Robert Hitchcock 1868-1887 and manufactured in Watertown, NY. 12" tall. 110 Cider Barrel Style Oil Lamp with a rectangular chimney, 1870's. 17" tall. 111 Barrie's Lamp with a brass connector and a milk glass base. Patent by Samuel Barrie 1875. 112 Oil Lamp with a Saturn Ribbed Pattern 1880's, with chimney, 16" tall. 113 Admiral Deweys Oil Lamp Lamp has an image of the battleship Maine and is embossed "Remember the Maine". Lamp is 13 1/2" tall and the base is 2 pairs of crossed cannons. 114 Advertising Tin used for Calcium Carbide made by The Gas Illuminating Company. 115 Amber Glass Finger Oil Lamp in the feather duster pattern, 1890's, lamp is 13" tall with an amber shoe match holder. 116 Wheat Pattern Finger Oil Lamp 10" tall, made of clear glass, includes match holder. 117 Two Piece Spelter Oil Lamp font is marked J.F. Iden Manufacturing 1868. 118 Adams Temple Lamp lamp consists of 3 parts: Font, 4 pillar base and a glass inverted cup. Circa 1883. 21 1/2" tall. 119 Composite Table Oil Lamp with nickel plated parts and a brass cast iron base. Font is etched with star pattern, lamp has an embossed female figure on stem, circa 1880's. 23 1/2" tall. 120 Amber Glass Oil Lamp "Thousand Eye" Pattern on stem with diamond and dot font and ruffled amber shade, circa 1885, 23" tall. 121 Composite Oil Lamp w/ a 3 fingered shaped pedestal circa 1890's, 24" tall. 122 Cased Glass Table Lamp white cut to cranberry. Possibly Boston and Sandwich Glass Company. Circa 1860's. 23" tall. 123 Greek Solider Bust Oil Lamp with a paint decorated and frosted font. 22" tall, 1880's. 125 Milk Glass Composite Oil Lamp with a 2 tiered marble base, circa 1870's, 23" tall. 126 Unusual Double Cornucopia Match Holder with 3 striking surfaces made of amber and clear glass. 5 3/4" tall 127 Gladstone Table Lamp nickel plated with a center draft, lamp is adjustable to a banquet lamp. Manufactured by Holmes, Booth and Hayden. Circa 1890. 21" tall. 128 Gas Table Lamp From the mid 19th century. Made of brass with a marble base and a milk glass shade. 25" tall. 129 Miller Student Lamp nickel plated, adjustable height, slated milk glass shade. 130 Tin Jack Light late 1800's. Used by guides and sportsman to lure deer or placed on the bow of the boat to lure fish. 19 1/2" wide. 131 Carbutts Dry Plate Lantern circa 1882, 19" tall with red lenses. 132 Ruby Flashed Font Oil Lamp with frosted decorations and a brass stem and iron base.
